Winter Reads Author Series: Kurt Johnson and Ellie Johnson on Facebook Live
Learn about the stories from father-daughter winners of the 2023 Minnesota Book Award for their coming-of-age adventure novel The Barrens. A book about storytelling as a tool for wilderness survival as well as for coping with grief, the Johnsons began working on this 2022 Great Group Reads selection after Ellie, at the age of 17, completed a 45-day canoe trip, paddling 450 miles along the Thelon River in the uninhabited subarctic.
