How do writers discover their characters? Our authors share how they conjure up heroes, heroines, and villains, and how fictional characters differ from real-life bad guys. Carl Brookins: Before he became a mystery writer and reviewer, Carl Brookins was a counselor and faculty member at Metropolitan State University in St Paul. He has reviewed mystery fiction for the St Paul Pioneer Press and Mystery Scene Magazine. Carl is an avid recreational sailor and has sailed in many locations across the world. He writes the sailing adventure series featuring Michael Tanner and Mary Whitney, the Sean Sean private investigator detective series, and the Jack Marston academic series.  He lives with his wife Jean of many years, in Roseville, Minnesota. You can find out more about Carl and his writing at: http://www.carlbrookins.com

Chris Norbury: Chris Norbury is the award-winning author of the mystery-suspense-thrillers Straight River and Castle Danger. He grew up in the Twin Cities and earned a B.S. in Music Education at the University of Minnesota. He’s written for several websites as a freelance writer. His essays on wilderness canoeing have been published in the Boundary Waters Journal. A volunteer Big Brother since 2000, Chris donates a portion of all book sales to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Minnesota. Julia Seedorf: Julie Seedorf has worn many hats. Wife, mother, waitress, activity assistant, volunteer, computer technician and finally at 61 realized her dream of becoming an author. She has been writing a column called “Something About Nothing” for area newspapers since 2005. Timya Owen: After kicking around the corporate nonprofit world for over 20 years, Timya Owen escaped to the exciting life of sports production, cat herding, and crime fiction. She is a recovering past president of the Twin Cities Chapter of Sisters in Crime and one of the editors (as well as a contributing author) of two TCSinC anthologies, Dark Side of the Loon and Minnesota Not So Nice. Timya lives in a quiet suburb of Saint Paul with her husband and a multitude of fat and sassy squirrels.
