Artistry: Drawing Manga & Comics

Comics and magna are a powerful form of visual storytelling. Come share your own story as we learn how to plan out and draw comic pages for ourselves. Projects and teacher demonstrations will focus on developing and refining anime and manga techniques. This will include foundational drawing skills as well as the basics  of character development and scene composition. Thumbnailing, pencils and inking techniques will all be touched on in this engaging class.

What you'll need: Any pencils and paper will work if the student is just interested in learning techniques and skills. To potentially start drafting comic and/or diving into this artform more seriously I would recommend the following: a sketchbook to practice in, Bristol Paper by Strathmore for drawing their comic pages, a few lighter drawing pencils such as an HB, H, and/or 2H, a kneaded eraser (does less damage to the paper when erasing), Inking Pens like Micron Pens or Faber Castell's Pitt artist pen.

If registration has closed, please email sbernstein@co.carver.mn.us to see if there's space available in the class.

This project was funded (in part or in whole) with money from Minnesota's Art and Cultural Heritage Fund.
